1. Overview
This Privacy Policy describes how Snow Line Software ("we," "our," or "us") handles information when you use TableChess: 2 Player Chess (the "App") on your iPhone or iPad.
The App does not require an account, does not connect to our servers, and does not send your games, moves or player names to us or anyone else. The only exception is the advertising described in Sections 5 and 6.
2. Data We Collect
2.1 Data stored on your device
Your game in progress (moves and clock times) and the player names you type are stored only on your device. They never leave your device unless you back up your device with iCloud or a computer, or share a game yourself.
2.2 App settings
Your preferences (play mode, clock, board theme, sounds and haptics) are stored locally on your device using iOS's standard settings storage and are not transmitted anywhere.
2.3 Data collected by our advertising partner
Google AdMob, the advertising SDK built into the App, collects some device and usage data to show and measure ads. We do not receive this data in a form that identifies you. See Section 5 for details.
3. Data We Do Not Collect
We do not collect:
- Your name, email address or any contact information
- Your games, moves or player names
- Precise location or GPS data
- Contacts, photos, camera or microphone data
- Health, fitness or financial information
- Analytics or crash reports sent to our own servers
4. Local Storage
TableChess saves the following on your device:
- Game: the moves of the game in progress and the clock times
- Players: the two player names you enter
- Preferences: play mode, clock, board theme, sounds, haptics and Developer Mode
This data is protected by iOS's app sandboxing and device encryption. Deleting the App permanently removes all of its data.
5. Advertising (AdMob)
5.1 Google AdMob
TableChess is free and supported by ads from Google AdMob: a banner at the bottom of the screen and, occasionally, a full-screen ad between games (never while a game is being played). To serve and measure these ads, AdMob may collect:
| Data | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Advertising Identifier (IDFA), only if you allow tracking | Ad personalization and measurement |
| IP address and approximate (coarse) location derived from it | Showing relevant, region-appropriate ads; fraud prevention |
| Device information (model, iOS version, language, screen size) | Showing ads that fit your device |
| Ad interaction data (ads shown, viewed or tapped) | Ad measurement and reporting |
| Diagnostic data (SDK crash and performance information) | Keeping ad delivery working |
This data is collected and processed by Google under its own privacy policy. It does not include anything you enter in the App.
5.2 Third-party policies
- Google Privacy Policy: policies.google.com/privacy
- How Google uses data from apps that use its services: policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites
6. Consent & Tracking
6.1 Consent in the EEA, UK and Switzerland
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, the App shows Google's consent form on first launch. It explains how your data is used for advertising and lets you accept, refuse or choose specific purposes. Where consent is required and you do not give it, ads are limited to non-personalized ads.
You can change your choice at any time in TableChess › Settings › Ad privacy choices.
6.2 App Tracking Transparency
iOS may ask whether you allow TableChess to track your activity across other companies' apps and websites. If you choose Ask App Not to Track, the Advertising Identifier is not shared and ads are not personalized based on it. Your choice never affects how the App works.
To change it later: iOS Settings › Privacy & Security › Tracking › TableChess.
6.3 Other ways to limit ad personalization
- iOS Settings › Privacy & Security › Apple Advertising › turn off Personalized Ads
- Google ad settings: myadcenter.google.com
7. Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent or trade your information. Apart from the advertising data flow between your device and Google described above, no data leaves the App. We have no access to that advertising data in a form that identifies you.
Sharing a game from the move list sends its record (PGN, including the player names) only to the app or person you choose.
8. Your Rights
8.1 Access and deletion
All App data is on your device. You can start a new game to replace the saved one, or remove everything by deleting the App.
8.2 Advertising controls
You can withdraw or change ad consent in TableChess › Settings › Ad privacy choices, change tracking permission in iOS Settings, and reset your Advertising Identifier at any time.
8.3 GDPR / UK GDPR / US state privacy laws
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or object to the processing of personal data, and to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal data for targeted advertising. Because we hold no personal data ourselves, requests about advertising data are best directed to Google through its privacy tools. You can still contact us (see Section 11) and we will help where we can.
9. Children's Privacy
TableChess is rated 4+ but is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If a child uses the App, you can limit ad personalization as described in Section 6.
10. Policy Changes
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last Updated" date above, and note material changes in the App's release notes. Continuing to use the App after an update means you accept the revised policy.
